THREE SHORT MEDITATIONS ABOUT LOVE ON ONE SHEET OF TYPING PAPER
eyes like Leslie’s
(from an understudy’s notes)
always do this today
burning edge of paper, extinguished

About This Poem
The poem still feels as clear as it’s title. Moments pulled from a single weekend in August 2000. We drove west from Corvallis out to Florence, Oregon under what felt like a perpetual sunset. We made fires on the beach. We drank white box wine from a van stashed cooler. We got tangled up in a pool tournament in Waldport. By our third night, all the paper that was left to burn came from my writing notebook. There was quite a lot of heartbreak there.
